Hi I would just like to thanks professor patanker for the brilliant work he done regarding my mums spinal fistular. We are so grateful. We are from liverpool and come to the queen's hospital for treatment. The walton centre said they couldn't locate the fistula for Mr lynch and his team did locate it and carried out the treatment. It just shows you how important a second opinion can be. So grateful to the consultants and nurses who cared for mum and big thanks to the hospital trust.

I am forever grateful to Dr. Patankar for my aneurysm stenting operation. He came highly recommended for what I needed, and from day 1 he has always been very approachable, explained everything clearly and I was always able to trust his deep expertise.

Professor Patankar treated me for a troublesome unruptured brain aneurysm. As a Consultant I can say he was truly exceptional. He discussed everything with me from the start of my medical journey under his care and continues to do so. He genuinely cares about all his patients.

Frequently asked

Can't find what you're looking for? Use the booking form and our team will respond within 24 hours.

What is interventional neuroradiology?

Interventional neuroradiology (also called neurointervention or endovascular neurosurgery) is the minimally invasive catheter-based treatment of diseases of the brain and spine, performed entirely through small punctures in the wrist or groin — without open surgery.

Do I need a referral?

A referral is not required for self-paying patients. However, most private medical insurers require a GP or specialist referral for reimbursement. Please check with your insurer before booking.

What insurance does Professor Patankar accept?

We work with all major UK insurers including BUPA, AXA Health, VitalityHealth, The Exeter, WPA, and Aviva. Please obtain pre-authorisation before your appointment and bring your membership number and authorisation reference.

What happens at the first appointment?

We review your symptoms, medical history, and all relevant imaging. We discuss the diagnosis, available treatment options, and agree a personalised plan. Time is always set aside for your questions. You are welcome to bring a family member or carer.

Are video or telephone consultations available?

Yes. Remote consultations are available when clinically appropriate. Imaging can be reviewed on screen and a management plan agreed. An in-person visit is recommended before any planned intervention.

Is there emergency on-call cover?

Yes. Professor Patankar provides a robust 24/7, 365-day neurointerventional on-call service at BHRUT. For acute stroke or ruptured aneurysm, patients should attend their nearest A&E immediately.
